I live within sight of the border and San Carlos would probably be closer for me than Puerto Penasco.

I'd like to know what they are requiring coming back into the US when you drive into Nogales, and how are the roads ?

Too hot , too many tourists. If you are in the state of Sonora go to the lovely old colonial city of Alamos.
