What documents do i need to visit mexico for a few hours?

Travel Info
my padre and i are planning on walkin over into mexico for a few hours say next week, but we dont know exactly what kind of identification we need to get over the border. i've heard rumor that you dont need a passport but you do need birth certificate and driver's license. can anyone inform me of the regulations?
give a source too soi know its accurate..

Travel Tips
I am currently in guadalajara visiting my fiancee, the last several times I have crossed the border all I was asked for was to show my california I.D. I did take my birth certificate but never had to present it. I t would be wise to take your CA. I.D. and birth certificate just in case you were asked for it. So far, that I know ,that is basically all you need for now. Have a wonderful time in mexico with your dad.

Right now all you need is two forms of ID including your birth certificate. The need of a pass port has not started yet, but it sure make s going threw the line a lot quicker!
now you do need a pass port to go mexico and a drivers license i just got back and i had to have that also pass ports r good for ten years
"Mike" is mistaken....all you need to walk to Mexico is your certified birth certificate and a government issued picture I.D.
