Why are "illegals" Mexicans crossing the Arizona border during the HOT summer months? |
Travel Info rather that the cool winter months?? Travel Tips Yeah, I think its the "desperation factor." Many people who come over need to make money immediately. The fewer who cross over during the hot summer months means the fewer illegals to take the "illegal" jobs, therefore the greater demand for illegals, therefore its even more worthwhile to take a chance on the crossings! You also have to figure on the "ignorance factor," many of the illegals are fairly uneducated people from some of the poorest areas of Mexico. They have very little idea of just what is waiting for them on the US side of the border. Many may well think that just across the border are waiting miles and miles of Wal-Marts, Piggly Wigglies, Burger Kings and strip malls selling strawberry floats, ice water, Cokes and chocolate chip ice cream. Like the millions of black and brown skinned people in the US who have such a high rate of skin cancer because they never use UV sunscreens, most Mexicans are contemptuous of the "gringo's" fear of the desert. The attitude is that as a Mexican, the desert, heat, sun burning down is second nature to them. They really don't understand the deadly consequences of wandering around lost in the desert for a day or two. What is worse, the criminal "coyotes" have a vested interest in keeping them ignorant of the risks! Others because they can. They keep on crossing the border no matter the season or the walls the USA Goberment puts there, USA needs braceros, they are cheap because as illegals they get less money for jobs no one wants to make in USA. A lot of fruit to be picked late summer thru fall. Less seasonal work in the winter http://sparks-mexico.com Because they have hungry children today. The can not wait until December to give them a piece of bread. What a silly question! To get to the other side. Privation...heat, dehydration means nothing to the committed crosser. He or she may have family, promise of a job in the US, nothing will stop them. My heart bleeds for the poor people who will never reach the goal they so desire, and perish in the unforgiving desert. |
