Able to enter? |
Travel Info My 11 month old and I are planning our trip to Mexico (we are staying for good... in other words, we wont need a passport for re-entry). I also know that in order to enter Mexico you have to have a notarized letter from the father since it will be just she and I. He is not listed on the birth certificate, and he is in Mexico so I am unable to obtain his signature. He will be picking us up at the airport, though. She has a birth certificate and a photo ID, and I have my passport. Will we be allowed to ENTER? Travel Tips I'm not sure if you're planning a trip or moving to Mexico. If you are moving to Mexico, you need to contact the nearest Mexican Consulate about the correct visas for yourself and your child. A tourist visa will not do--you will pay hefty fines. If you are married to your daughter's father, it will make things much easier. If the father is not listed on the birth certificate, that is a problem. You need the permission of whoever is listed as the father in order to travel with your child to Mexico. If it is incorrect on the birth certificate, that needs to be taken care of. If you try to enter Mexico via air without a passport, you will be hassled like you wouldn't believe by immigration. Trust me, I went through it in 2002. I made sure everyone in my group and myself all had passports when we went the following year! Your daughter may need proof at some point of her citizenship--get the passport. It's well worth the trouble and expense. If your child's father is Mexican, your child is considered Mexican while she is in Mexico. She should then have two passports, since she will have dual citizenship. Others Your baby needs a pssport too. Right now you think you wont be retuning to the U.S., but you may change your mind...or want to go back for a visit...Get her a passport. you need signature of both parents to get a pssport. or you can have a signed, permission(notaried) from the father. Have him write that, get it notarized and Fed-Ex it to you. You really need that passport and a letter of permission from him. he needs to write a letter for you to get her a passport...his permission...and a letter of permission to bring her to Mexico..both letters notarized...then he can fed-ex both to you. I doubt if you can get an Fm3 visa to Mexico because of the income requirement, so you can come on a 6 month tourist visa. But then you will have to renew that every 6 months at the border...or get an fm3 visa when you and the father get married. Otherwise you will have a terribly difficult time getting permission to stay in Mexico...they will deport you with ease. It would be wise to visit the nearest Mexican consulate and discuss all this with the officer there. Again...Do get her a passport...she is an American citizen and you want to protect that...believe me...it will come in handy later. Life in Mexico may be very different than you anticipate. See the website below for a list of Mexican consulates. Choose the closet one to you and contact them. Better to talk all this over with them than to have problems in the future. PLAN WELL and carefully. I hope things work out well for you. http://www.mexonline.com/consulate.htm... American living in Mexico |
