Has it been set in stone that you need a passport to come back in the Country? Driving? |
Travel Info We are traveling to Mexico and a lil concerned that we might need a passport to come back in. We have a Drivers License and Birth Certificate is that enough? Are they being really strict? Travel Tips NOPE! If you're only driving you don't need one yet, but January 2008 it will be a law whether you fly or drive, passports will be mandatory. Others call the local govt and ask, i know they changed passport rules for canada until next summer I understand they are lifting passport requirments due to time delays in issueing them; check with the U.S. Embassy Now and ask this question. Do Not rely on this webpage for that type information as it can ruin your vacation. You don't need anything else than your drivers license and birth certificate. You might not even need your birth certificate, but its safe to take it with. My friend went their. The answerers that said you do not need a passport to drive to and from Mexico are correct. Starting in Jan. 2008 you will need a passport to drive to and from Mexico, but right now it is only for flying. It takes several months to get a passport so you may want to go ahead and apply soon so you have it for the future. The 1st website below gives the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (the passport law) so you can read it for yourself. The 2nd website gives all info on aplying for a passport.
