Cell phone use in Monterrey, Mexico-Can an American cell phone call a Telmex cell phone? |
Travel Info I have a friend in Monterrey, Mexico who has a Telmex cell phone with no international service as the friend has international service on the home landline. My question is: Are American cell phones useable in Monterrey, Mexico to call a local Telmex cell phone user who has no international telephone calling options on the cell phone? Are there any American cellphone companies which can have their cell phones used in Monterrey, Mexico to call a Telmex cell phone with no long distance service? Travel Tips Hi! you should be able to do it cos we no longer pay for incoming long distance calls! But we do have a new way of dialing a cell phone from another country tho.. you have to dial the usual 011 plus the 52 as the country code plus 1 plus the number (the one goes right after the 52 and before the other number) I hope it helps Source(s): My own experience Other Travel Tips Your cell phone should be able to make a call or text, But be prepared to pay...BIGTIME Yes - we just used our Sprint phone (from the states) here in Monterrey. The American phone is the one that will be charged international calls - not the Telmex phones. (The American has to dial long distance as if it were in the states - and for the American phone to call the US, it has to dial 001-area code, phone # just as if it were calling from a Mexican landline.) It will also be charged roaming. But, it is possible! Just did. Not all cell phones work in other countries-contact your carrier. Mine stopped working after I was 20 miles away from the US-Canadian border. Sometimes you can replace the SIM card and then your phone will work in another country. Again, contact your carrier. |
