Travel Tips
Totally agree with carol p (above). Me and my hubby moved to Spain. He is a builder. He has found it difficult to get work, although his daily rates are cheap (half the price of the U.K.) and he is a professional. He has only just managed to get ongoing work, mainly because people have recommended him. We actually live in Javea which is not very far away from Calpe. If you need to work, then I would seriously consider all of your options. It is not easy, but saying that, the lifestyle is fantastic and we would not return to the U.K. from choice. Liek where they pay you to get plastered?
have a look and place an advert in www.costablanca-news.com it the local english paper, loads of employment vacancies.

You don't lose nothing if you try, never know might have to move earlier lol.... Good Luck
English lived in Spain 16yrs.
finding work in the building trade here is not easy as nearly all brits that can hold a trowel say they are builders but that is far from the truth plastering is not realy reconized as a trade here because they dont plaster they render inside and out with sand and cement and the bricklayer does it. sadly because of all the cowboys mostley brits the spanish dont trust them not to say they are all that way plus the building methods are totaly diferent to the uk they dont build houses they make big hollow concrete blocks and paint them ther is a web site jobs in spain you could look at best of luck hope you get what you are after
You are joking! The newspapers are full of people advertising their trades and when you call them, they're always available for work....because there isn't any work! Houses are not built in the same way and walls do not get plastered for starters. They tend to spray them with a render finish. The building industry here is heading for a serious decline, with the spanish worrying about their jobs, and no matter where you are or how good you are, the spanish will always put themselves first. You will have to register as self employed, as soon as you do that, you have to begin paying social security at about 260 鈧?a month, whether you have any income or not, you have to pay otherwise they can arrest you, they do not tolerate anyone working on the black anymore especially when its a foreigner doing it! The social security will cover you and wife and children, but if you are only living with a partner, he/she will not be covered, wil have to pay the same again for them or pay private
