You need to check whether the country from which you have a passport is required to have a visa to visit Switzerland. Your work permit in the UK is not relevant. Switzerland is not in the EU, and does have passport checks at the borders. In most places in Switzerland the currency is not the Euro, but the Swiss Franc. In some places, such as ski resorts, the Swiss Franc and the Euro are accepted. This is because there are some shared areas (such as Zermatt and Cervina) where you can cross over to Italy without a passport check.
