Which Swiss chocolate is good to buy as souvenir back to Australia? |
Travel Info Which brands taste good? Are there any difference between the supermarket Swiss chocolates and the more fancy ones? I'm going to Switzerland next week. Travel Tips Try Migros (big super Store chain) - their chocolates are very good too but not much less expensive than Lindt or other brand names. But pls consider that it is summer and you're travelling around. The chocolates might melt and loose their fine flavour! Others Lindt is good. Hi Lilliana, my wife would be very direct and tell you Leonidas chocolate is the best in the world, it is available in Switzerland but it is a Belgium company, also on a lower price Lindt is good and the choice is amazing. Have a good trip and give my regards to Oz. the obvious choice is to buy things that are not available in Australia (if you can buy it at home, why go through the hassel of buying it in Switzerland?). Lindt chocolate is sold everywhere... but there is no difference between what you buy in Switzerland and what you buy in another country. there is one exception though; Lindt has some flavors that are not available outside of the country - when i went this Christmas, they had the Weilnacht chocolate (Christmas chocolate) bars that i was not able to find in the Lindt stores in the USA. they were really good, but it's a limited time offer. also, i've not seen the chili-flavored Lindt Excellence bars anywhere else (though that may differ by country). each city/town in Switzerland has a dominant chocolate shop. in Zurich, it's Sprungli or Teuscher (though i've seen a Teuscher store in Rockefeller Center in NYC). Sprungli's chocolates are highly rated, though i'm more interested in their Luxemburgerli myself. you can always go to supermarkets like Migros or Coop for chocolate. even the generic, grocery-store brands are quite good (and inexpensive). i like the Cailler chocolates (sold at Coop, made by Nestle), which i've never seen anywhere else; their packaging for the box sets is also very stylish. Cailler's chocolate tends to be on the heavy side, so it may not be to everyone's taste. you can always buy Toblerones... even though they can be purchased anywhere in the world, one big incentive in buying in Switzerland is that it's the cheapest price you'll ever find. Toblerones are actually even cheaper in a Swiss grocery store (with their 7% included Swiss tax) than the same thing found at Duty Free airport shops. Seriously Switzerland and all you can think of is chocolate...cant blame ya...however dont they have an ice bar in switzerland? On second thought Ice does not travel well...taste at least three brands that are recommended and than choose.. Lindt chocolate is very good, but Frey is also very good and cheaper. You can get it at the Migros, one of the 2 main gorcery store chains. Just remember that if it's hot, your chocolate might melt in your suitcase on the way back to Australia. I live in switzerland and when I go to the states I used to bring chocolate, but once it all melted in the summer!! I found the best chocolate was in the special chocolate shops where it is not packaged up, you just choose which pieces/types you want and off you go. They are generally more expensive, but they are worth it. If you are in Zurich, take a walk down Bahnhofstrasse and you will see a few chocolate shops, including Lindt. |
