Can I take my own passport photos for the US passport? |
Travel Info I mean I have a digital camera...What are the requirements? They won't miss my $15..If I take my own...Why are they so damn expensive..the economy is screwed up.. Travel Tips Yes, you can do your own photos, however there are strict guidelines you have to follow or it will cause your passport application to be rejected. I got my photos done at Walgreen's for $7.99 and they give you two photographs which is required by the government. When I dropped my application off at the post office (April 23) I was told it would take at least 6-8 weeks to get anything back. Since I have zero plans to travel out of the U.S. anytime soon, the delay isn't that important to me. Now, the media is stating it is taking longer to process all applications so the government is extending the deadlines. I would make sure to keep your passport application receipt with you if you are planning travel out of the U.S. as most travel will be accepted if you show a valid passport application receipt. Others The passport office has ALWAYS had very strict regulations regarding passport photos. They are of a consistent size and on a particular background. Headsize must conform. Bite the bullet and do it. Kinkos can take passport photos. If you've got the $ to travel, you can have a passport photo done right. Absolutely! Just make sure it's positioned like a drivers license pic, from the shoulders up and your face is completely visible. Also, make sure the pic itself is the proper size. They have the dimensions the pic needs to be written on the application. Me and my bro did them for a trip and it worked fine. me Seriously? I mean is this a real question? This is a joke right? The Postal people take test.They have to have an ability work in a very small parameter of regulations.They have to be able to make the simplest task seem insurmountable.Coupled with the National Security situation, you would probably be turned away for the slightest error or deviation.....I just updated mine and they wanted a new pic as mine was 10 yrs old.I also don't have a beard any more....There are low cost photo places that specialize in passport photos for as little as $5.Get on line/phone book,look in Immigrant neighborhood stores ect..ect...ect... and you can a better deal....The new passports are for 10 yrs so if you divide the expense by 10 ,it's pretty cheap....and you can pose and smile for your passport. |
