Travel Info I am fixing to go to Costa Rica, any tips, or helpful hints? Travel Tips Dear Sea-Bat, JI'm not much of a chatter but I just spent six weeks in Costa Rica last winter and loved it. The usual complaints are of too many tourists. Depends where. 1/3rd of the country is national park space. Get off the beaten track and avoid the expensive surfer hangouts (although I love surfing), which tend to attract many, yes, they say, gringos. And gringos with money. Or else go to more off the beaten track sites (always a good move in travelling) when you want to party. Costa Rica is hands down, if not the most culturally interesting, certainly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The diversity of eco-systems is phenomenal for such a small place. I took local buses, comfortable but not easy to navigate, unless your Spanish is OK., and you can pass through several very different landscapes in a matter of hours. I enjoyed the trip immensely, but it cost more than I expected, although it is cheap by US standards. Check out the Carribean Coast (more English, more Jamaicans). My favorite place, however was a hike into Corcavado, in the south along the Pacific coast. Enjoy! Sam Source(s): sam.mitchell@yahoo.com Other Travel Tips One of my daughter's roommates from U of M lived there for a year, doing Peace Corps/ecology-type things, and she LOVED it. I did hear of some crime against Americans from the States, though, so just be careful. Have a great trip! Where is that exactly. Sounds exotic. Thank you Sea Bat, I told you it sounded exotic, I was right. |
