I would strongly recommend www.tripadvisor.com or www.thorntree.lonelyplanet.com

Both are excellent for information on your destination. Simply find the proper forum - for example the Paris forum instead of the more general France forum if you plan to travel to Paris.

You can post your question and there are local experts who answer as well as fellow travelers. It's a really good place to check out.
If you plan on traveling to Europe - I would recommend booking your rooms through www.venere.com
I used them 3 times to book rooms in Italy, Spain, London, and Paris and all were great. The reviews can only be written by customers who booked and completed their stay at their hotel. Keep an open mind when reading reviews. You can tell some people like to complain about everything. PS they now book some hotels in the US too.
