Can you just go to Cuba? |
Travel Info Like, if I wanted to visit there, could I go, as an American citizen? Travel Tips O.K. "Sally" is 100% wrong. "amysaysrelax" is 100% correct. The US currently has an embargo against Cuba and there are very few legal ways to get there. Unless you fall into one of the licensing-exempt categories you need permission from the US Department of the Treasury (specifically the Office of Foreign Assets Control -- OFAC) before you travel. There are flights from Miami, FL to Cuba but, again, you better have the Department of Treasury license to go. If you choose to go to a different country in hopes of bypassing the embargo, please remember that CBP knows about this game, and if you get caught you may be fined thousands of dollars. You can go but getting back is a biatch. No, the US has a trade embargo with Cuba. There are no direct flights from the US to Cuba. If you are reported or caught traveling there without permission you can be prosecuted or fined by the US Treasury Dept. There are some exceptions where permission is granted for humanitarian reasons or visits to family in Cuba. Nope, but a lot of people go through Canada. It is perfectly legal as an American Citizen to go to Cuba. However, planes, trains and automobiles do not leave American soil as a direct destination. You must leave the country to a different country, before flying directly there. Most people either go Canada or the Bahamas, and then to Cuba. Beautiful beaches. |
