How old must a child be to go on a plane ride on their own? |
Travel Info How old must a child be to go on a plane ride on their own? Travel Tips They can travel as young as 5 years old own as an unaccompanied minor and as an adult at 12. Others i think 13-15 is a good age, it just depends on their maturaity level and if they can handle the pressure being by themselves. it just depends. If you are talking about commerical air flights, the minimum age is usually 5 - but airlines are free to set their own rules for this, so you'll have to check with the airlines first. Almost always there are other restrictions you have to be aware of also, like no transfers (direct flights only), and you can't book an unaccompanied child on the last flight of the day. Also you'll have to pay a fee ($25-40 per flight segment) for the paperwork and personnel cost of making sure your child gets on the right flight and is only released to the correct person at destination. Finally, international flights may be different - I expect the minimum age is higher for them. You should go on the plane ride with them unless they know where the hell they're supposed to go. I wouldn't send an unaccompanied person that's younger than 16 ride on a plane on their own, and CERTAINLY not one that's under 10 years of age. That would be practical pedophile bait. I hope that helps. Good luck! |
