How can I be strong when throwing belongings away? |
Travel Info Am packing to move to US it's such a struggle to decide what stays and what gets thrown away any words of wisdom?? Travel Tips Take pictures of things you want to remember. I have pics of teddy bears from childhood or a teen boyfriend... And of art that I did, whether sculptures, or my son's wacky t-shirt for his summer camp wacky t-shirt contest. Then you have those memories, but you save SO much space. If you have a digital camera, how much easier to just take, download, and spend no money doing it! Or have a friend help you. Then, take onyl what you need, and what you will PASS DOWN to future generations or will be WORTH MONEY. Everything else is nonsense in the course of the day anyway. Your friend, a former packrat! Others Get someone else to do it for you. Understand it can be hard, keep the sentimental things though. if you haven't used it for 3 months you probably wont again. why not car boot it just remember that the pound is strong at the moment - you can buy new things when you get there at almost half price! I had exactly the same dilemma when I moved to Spain. I gave personal things such as framed prints to friends or family who wanted them. Any other household items were also given away to friends and family. Lots of black sacks to the charity shop. Loads of items from the loft into a skip. If you have loads of time before you leave, any chance you could hold a 'garage sell'. I didn't have too much time, but a neighbour of mine did it and sold loads of (what she thought were useless items). You need to be a bit ruthless. We brought things with us and they are still in the boxes after over 3 years. Good luck with your move. Experience of moving from U.K. to Spain. When doing a clear out i always say to myself....Have i used this item in the past 6 months if no then off to the charity shop...so ur pile is less now right?..... now ask yourself did this item cost under 拢10 and can a replacement be bought? If yes chuck it. If any items are really good but you could always buy them again when moved then just sell them on ebay! |
