Is Sri Lanka still rebuilding? |
Travel Info I'm writing a story set in present day in which the main character visits Sri Lanka. Is that country, as well as other countries affected by the Indian Ocea earthquake, still rebuilding, or are things back to "status quo"? Travel Tips Hahahahahahaha! Back to status quo? Have you seen how long it's taken us to rebuild after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita a couple of summers ago? Some things aren't anywhere near "back to normal" along the Gulf Coast -- and that's with the tremendous resources of the USA, both government and donated resources. Now, think about how poor much of the Indonesian coastal areas' people are. Oh, it's slipped out of the consciousness of the first world, but they are still working hard to rebuild. Some areas are looking a little better and others aren't. There are any number of aid agencies whose websites you can look at to see how things are going in Indonesia. Try World Vision and Samaritan's Purse to start with. I know they're both reliable; there are many other reliable ones, too, but these are the ones I know best. Others lol, i have been there last year and the government really hasn't done anything so far. the train that got hit by the wave is still there, and at that time (about 2 years after the tsunami hit) the train was not touched and there was a paper sign on the train that said: Please do not come inside for the respect of those who died and then i saw a lot of camps out there too it's a poor country, so it's still rebuilding |
