I want to go on a missions trip ..HELP? |
Travel Info i have always wanted to go on a missions trip...to almost anyplace sometime this summer..i dont want to spend alot of money..but if i could go i am going for all the right reasons, to help, share god's word... if u have any information on a missions trip or some websites that arent fake..please let me know. Travel Tips Do you belong to a church or denomination? It is better to go with a team that has experience. I have been to two Mission trips, but with my church affiliation. Most Mission groups would want to know where you stand in your beliefs. You also need some training. You cannot just approach people in a foreign land and take them aside and preach the gospel on the street just like that. You have to know how to approach the subject. If you "bulldoze" into it, you might cause more harm to the gospel by turning the listener away! Like scare them off! People who approach the wrong way have given Christians a bad name. That's why training is very important. Also, in some countries, it is against the law to preach the gospel and if you are not wise and careful, you can lend up in serious trouble with the law of the land! Jesus said,"Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves." (I assume you believe in Jesus Christ as Savior) I recommend you contact "Youth with a Mission". I don't have their address but you can find almost anything on a search engine, on the internet! Try the http://www.youthwithamission.org... and see if you can get to their website. I would like to try to get it for you, but if I exit out of this page, chances are I cannot get back. The computer will tell me that I have answered your question. It has happened before. Hope it works. Others i know of a couple of people who are on missions right now, but i really don't have much info.. can't you find out at a church? I just went to a missions conference in December called Urbana, and they have a website-Urbana.org where you can search missions agencies--but I'm not sure if you have to have gone to the conference to use that or not, but it is a great resource. Also, you might want to check with several difference missions organizations to see if there's anything available...off the top of my head I'm thinking of WorldVenture, Gospel for Asia, Frontiers, World Vision, Latin America Mission, South America Mission, Send International, Every Child Ministries, Back2Back, and there are SO MANY MORE. If you can get into the Urbana database it allows you to search according to your interests and special talents/gifts. I'm going to Mexico City this summer through Latin American Mission. I hope you find a trip for you if it's in God's timing. My only advice is that going on a mission trip not only entails sharing God's word, but more than anything it's sharing Christ's love. And a lot of times you come out learning more than you get to teach, so just be open, flexible and willing to learn and God will speak to you. God Bless. -Oh yeah here are a few more summer trips I had looked up for a friend, with accompanying websites: Child Evangelism Fellowship: www.summermissions.com Greater Europe Mission: www.gemission.com Interserve: www.interserveusa.org *Orphanage Outreach: www.orphanage-outreach.org www.urbana.org |
