Cancun much more safer than the canary islands or thailand. I had a friend go to the canary island and complain that she didn't enjoy herself much (big party girl) and recently my brother went to thailand and felt intimidated by most of the people in the hotel and "mysteriously" got his camera stolen at a local restaurant.

Thailand - you can go see underground pit fights to the death and you can learn muay thai from real muay thai masters
no their of the north west coast of africa ; )
Cancun is probably safer..
