Old european currency?

Travel Info
whilst cleaning out some drawers i have found some small amounts of pre-euro french, german and spanish currency. Is there a charity or association who can use this - it seems a shame just to bin it.

I know British AIrways are always collecting any old coins.

Quote from British Airways General Counsel, British Airways, Rob Webb
"British Airways has worked with UNICEF for over twelve years on the Change for Good programme and during this time we have raised in excess of 拢23 million for UNICEF's vital work for children. It is an excellent example of how a company and a charity can work together to make a tangible difference to children's lives. The Change for Good programme has engaged our key stakeholders, customers and employees. The success of the programme rests on the strong partnership between both organisations. The result has been one of the longest running and highest income charity partnerships in the UK today of which both British Airways and UNICEF are very proud".

To date, more than 900 American Airlines staff have already signed up to be Champions for Children. This number continues to rise as more volunteers become committed advocates for the world鈥檚 children and share their passion with other colleagues.

Aer Lingus
In 2006, over US $1.2 million was raised by Change for Good庐 on board Aer Lingus long-haul flights. This is the highest amount ever raised in one year (this also includes the newly launched Dubai route).

Quote from Aer Lingus Chief Executive Dermot Mannion at the press conference marking the tenth anniversary of Change for Good庐 in Jan 2007
"Aer Lingus is proud of its partnership with UNICEF Ireland and the success of the Change for Good campaign over the last ten years. Its success would not be possible but for the ongoing generosity of our passengers and the commitment and dedication of Aer Lingus staff. We look forward to continuing to support the UNICEF Change for Good campaign which offers invaluable assistance to the world's most disadvantaged children, making a real difference to their lives."

Guess you will have to take a flight somewhere and give them your change, unless ofcourse you have a unicef branch you know near by, sure they will be happy to accept it. Source(s): www.unicef.org.uk www.unicef.org/corporate_partn...

As for germany, it can still be exchanged for Euros :
"The Bundesbank's euro for DM exchange guarantee covers an unlimited amount of cash and runs for an indefinite period. "

It's probably not worth doing so if its only a small amount.
