Is this a racist sign outside a Thailand hotel? It seems common in many other Asian cities? |
Travel Info I just came across it randomly and was kind of surprised - http://www.hotelthailand.com/pattaya/dyn... This is what the sign says: "All rate are except Chinese, Korian tours, Arabs and Indians" I've been to Thailand before and being Indian, never faced any such thing. This brings back some kind of memories -I know a couple of Indian friends from London who once went to Dubai, UAE and were in a mostly Asian group comprising Korean males and were refused entry by bouncers- although the "women" were allowed and also, one White man! Well none entered of course. And this was in broad daylight. The place was named Cactus Cantina. I have been curious on this subject. Why are some of these Asian cities allowing these establishments to violate every norm in today's age? What would you do if you were a non-White and refused entry/service in one of these places? I just wrote a booking into Dynasty Hotel and let's see if I get any response. :) Travel Tips haha this is quite funny beared in mind that all of Asia is black. Others It is simply to make more money from the wealthy "western" white people! They hike up rates for tourists and foreigners, and they are blatent about it. Suppose they're right too... Well, it's sad, but you can't judge one culture based on another. Speaking very generally here, certain groups of people from certain countries have certain traits which are not acceptable to the people of the host country. I have seen signs of this style in Asian countries and have had the reasons explained to me. Is it right? Probably not. Should the local citizens have to suffer these groups? Probably not. What do you do? Protect your own staff first. That's the reason given. Not a nice choice. Well, it is saying that the rates don't apply to those groups, not that they are actually banned. It certainly sounds discriminatory, but I suppose there may be some economic reason for it - something to do with exchange rates. But I confess, it does look very odd! They can't even spell "Korean" correctly..., why didn't they put "Japanese" in the list? how about "Filipino"? Please list up all other Asians and ask them on my behalf, thanks! |
