Does a U.S. citizen need a passport to get into Canada now? What about Aruba or the Virgin Islands?

Travel Tips
INTO Canada no. Back to the US when you try to get OUT OF Canada is another story. Right now you either need a passport or proof you've applied for one. Soon you will need a passport in hand.

The US Virigin Islands are the same way. Some of the Virgin Islands are Brittish though and you would need a passport to get in. The same goes for Aruba which is a Dutch territory.
Others
Yes, you will need a passport for Canada and Mexico (Aruba) the US Virgin Islands I鈥檓 not sure about. Anywhere that is not a US territory you need a passport for these days.
If you fly right now you have to have a passport, but if you drive I don't think you have to till 2008.
You can go to the 1st website below to read the Western aHemisphere Travel Initiative (the passport law) for yourself. You must have a passport to '"FLY outsie of U.S. territory. You do not need a passport to fly to the U.S. Vrgin Islands. If you find you need a passport soon, you can apply PRONTO, then use the current flexibility program to be allowed to fly without the passport if your passport will not be ready on time. Go to the 2nd website below to get info to apply for a visa and to read about the flexibility program. To use the flexibility program, you MUST APPLY, save your RECEIPT, and FOLLOW the instructions on the website. Hope it all works out for you well.

You will most likely need a passport to get back into the US. If you're flying that is.
Yes. All U.S. citizens now need passports to get in and out of Canada. Also a passport is need to go anywhere in the Caribbean and also Mexico. Since these laws were made, there has been a backup in the time it takes to apply for and receive a passport in the States. So as long as you have proof of application for a passport and proof of your identity, traveling should be fine. Hope this helps!
