First Time Camping?? |
Travel Info It will be my first time ever camping in July...what do I do camping and what do I bring??Thanx!! Travel Tips You'll explore the area to be with nature. This can be done in many ways...climbing, hiking, bike riding, fishing, etc. To do this best, leave your cell, phone and ipod at home...or at least in the car. You should take several items to make your experience both comfortable and safe. Depending on your destination and length of time, take along things you may need. Some campsites are very isolated while others are near stores. Find out how far from civilization you will be staying and look at the following list of supplies for the things you will need: http://www.lovetheoutdoors.com/camping/c... Most things can be found locally at K-Mart, Walmart, fishing and hunting stores. Another good source is the following website: http://www.rei.com/ Others Definitely bug spray adn sunscreen! You will also need basic clothes, hygeine stuff and definitely some good hiking boots/shoes. Depending on where you are going and what you are doing you may hike, swin, etc. It is a lot of fun and camp fires are awesome! You should provide a bit more detail. Nothing personal, but things like where (state, province, or region), KOA or state/provincial park or wilderness, will there be available electricity and running water, will there be clean drinking water, and maybe something about your own hobbies, etc. Typical camping activities in upstate New York, Ontario, and Quebec would be hiking on area trails, swimming/diving/snorkeling, canoeing, fishing, camp fires. Invariably (unless you are camping in the desert) your stuff will get wet. Bring spare everything, clothes and shoes that can stand up to the outdoors, and lots of bug spray and sun block. good site: http://www.lovetheoutdoors.com/camping/c... What to bring will depend on where you'll be going -- but some good general rules are: Don't OVER-pack. Bring clothes that can be layered or used in multiple combinations (if you'll be sleeping in a tent outdoors it's likely to be cool in the morning, but you probably won't want to wear flannel all day). Swimsuit (if applicable to the location) Comfortable, all-purpose shoes; hiking books if applicable. Sunscreen Toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant & basic toiletries Bug spray A cap or hat A re-fillable water container (canteen) A camera I always bring a book or two Again, if you're gonna be in a tent, bring a comfy, warm sleeping bag. It doesn't have to be from Galyans or REI and rated at -10 degrees unless you're going camping in Nepal. Foodstuffs: think ahead & try to bring stuff that leaves minimal impact (trash). Sandwiches, rice, beans, fruits as opposed to bags of chips, soda cans, & pre-packaged stuff. As far as what to do -- there is probably hiking, nature trails, swimming & general sightseeing; some places have horse shoes, volleyball, & badminton courts. You may be able to go fishing (just make sure you have a permit from the state wildlife bureau!). At night you hang around the campfire, help make dinner, roast marshmallows & weenies, and talk. Go for a walk at night & be amazed at how many stars you can see! Have fun!! A lot of what you need to bring is dependent on where you are staying. At a camp ground? In the middle of the woods? hiking? Mountains? Lake or other water? Are there Bears and such? Cold? Tree cover? How many nights? I'm going to assume you are doing the camp ground thing and it'll be hot. There might be water and probably tree cover. I'm going to assume one or two nights. A flashlight is essential, as is a tent, sleeping bag, food, stuff to cook with, sunscreen and bug spray. |
