In which continent does new zealand lie? |
Travel Info In which continent does new zealand lie? Travel Tips Professor C is partly right (the others are way wrong!) Years ago, the continent was called Oceania. Oceania included Australia, both islands in New Zealand, Tasmania, Fiji, Samoa and the rest of thePacific Islands. However, the continent's named was changed to "Australasia", a mixture of Australia and Asia. So to answer your question, New Zealand is part of Oceania or Australasia. Others I THINK IT'S IN AUSTRALIA :) New Zeland doesn't lie on a continent. It's an island. New Zealand is part of Zealandia, a continent that is 93% submerged. Zealandia is almost half the size of Australia and is unusually long and narrow. New Zealand is two islands (and possibly some smaller islands along the coast) in the south eastern Pacific Ocean. It is not part of a continent and is considered part of the planet known as Oceania. Australia is large enough to qualify as a continent but was not given that designation when I was in school and with the downgrading of Pluto would probably no longer qualify. New Zealand is an island....not a continent. It is located fairly near Australia. Oceania- New Zealand and Australia are part of Oceania. Well, first off, New Zealand is an island, and doens't 'lie' on any continent. Techically, New Zealand is part of a continent called Zealandia, which is actually 93% submerged under water. So, from a technical standpoint, it doesn't really lie on/in/a part of any of the main continents; however, New Zealand is considered to a part of Oceania (or sometimes a part of Australia), a continent which contains Australia, Indonesia, Fiji, the Easter Islands, and several others, including New Zealand. Hope this has helped! |
