Whats a good destination for a first skiing trip to Europe & why?

Travel Info
I was thinking of some of the new European states rather than some of the more expensive well known destinations

Travel Tips
It depends on what you want. The Austrian, Italian, and Swiss alps are, big, high mountains with long-established ski areas that are great to fabulous. They are also very expensive.

Ski areas in eastern Europe (ex. Bulgaria and Slovenia) are not as developed as those in the west. Note that "not as developed" can mean "poorly groomed", so choose carefully unless you are a good skier.

Citizen of EU is right about Kranjska Gora, and Slovenia is very, very tourist-friendly. The ski area of Vogel is also in Slovenia and probably has more reliable snow (higher altitude). It also has mostly beginner & intermediate terrain.

I have been to Kranjska Gora recently and it is well developed with a "ski village".

Vogel was not as developed when I was last there (7 years ago). I went with a friend who was a non-skier, but private lessons were very cheap. My friend was skiing quite well after only 3 (full) days of lessons. We stayed in the valley at the Hotel Zlatarog, and there is an on-mountain "skiers chalet" hotel at the top of the lift.

Bulgaria will probably be less expensive than Slovenia but may not be the better choice for a "first skiing trip".

I went skiing in Bansko (Bulgaria) 4 years ago, but they were experiencing a lack of snow in March and it was challenging.

Borovets is the big ski area close to Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria). It would be the easiest to get to and is probably the most developed. Also probably the most crowded.

alot of my skiing friends love Germany or Switzerland due to the powder consistency....
forget the snow , head for spain and the lovely women there
Andorra is by far..... it has lots of beginner slopes and is cheap as its tax free.
experience
Bootle, Liverpool. Great slope.
Livigno in Italy is absolutely stunning and great for begininners! Nearest airport = Milan
