Who has ever been to Antarctica? |
Travel Info What kind of things did you do and were you able to see any 'aurora borealis'(northern lights-those colorful lights from the sky, they show them in happy feet the movie) Travel Tips I went to Antarctica on a cruise. It was incredible, I also did a "flightseeing" flight over it. Weather and ice, not clocks and calendars, set the schedule for a journey there. Cruising is the only way to do it as there are not hotels or tourist facilities. Here is a great link about travel there. You might be very surprised to find out that people do go where only the penguins live! LOL The best time to go there is December through January which is their "summer". Remember, they are in the Southern Hemisphere so seasons are reversed! It was fascinating and different and I did it because it was there and I wanted to leave my footprints on that continent. ttp://www.coolantarctica.com/T... The Northern Lights are not visible from the South Pole! There it is called the Aurora Australis! Antarctica is not only the coldest, windiest, and driest place on earth, (the tourist season is a scant four months long). but there are no shops, piers, idyllic beaches, or tourist venues at the Antarctic ports of call. Hard to bring back a souvenir! Antarctica is also our highest continent. Over half of the land over 6,500 feet above sea level. The highest peak on Antarctica is over 11,000 feet. it is not for everyone trust me on that but I am glad that I did it and will always remember what it was like. Maybe someday you can do it as well. Source(s): 34 years in the Travel Business and over 100 cruises Other Travel Tips I know two people who went to Antarcitca. They said it was really cold. |
