What are some cost-effective ways of moving cross-country?

Travel Info
I've got some relativly large items to transport where a U-Haul just won't suffice (my couch, bed and some other things). I'd essentially like to hire movers to transport my things from the DC Metro to the St. Louis Metro....Any advice?

Travel Tips
only hire the movers to load your uhaul, then hire movers at your drop off location to help you unload, Source(s): ex-mover
Other Travel Tips
There is an awsome moving company that is nationwide. They are called Two Men And A Truck. They have over 196 locations. They have been featured in several movies, the recent one being I now pronounce you Chuck & Larry. Go here to check out their website- www.twomenandatruck.com Good luck they have moved me several times and they just moved my grandmother in St. Louis. The St. Louis crew was GrEaT!
Experience
When I moved half-way cross country, I used a company (now defunct) that put my large and small items on a huge semi with other peoples' stuff. That cut the cost down a bit. Ask a moving company if they have a policy like that.
