Traveling in England - what should we see? |
Travel Info My wife and I (we're Americans) will go to the UK in October to see the sights. We like history, villages, landscape and estates. We are spending 4 days in London and 4 days outside London. Based on my research, the places below intrigue me, but we only so much time. What should I skip considering we have only 4 days outside London? Cotswolds Bath Northern Wales Lakes District York Cambridge Oxford Edinburgh Cathedrals - Canterbury, Salisbury Travel Tips one great thing about britain is that it is so much smaller than the states, so places don't take as long to get to. i'm not sure you would be able to make it up to edinburgh, unless you really had crazy busy long days. i would highly recommend york. it is one of my favourite cities. oxford and cambridge are interesting, especially if you would be interested in looking around the universities. north wales is also beautiful, but i am not sure you would have enough time if you only have 4 days. for me, it is one of those places that you would want to spend several days at alone. the derbyshire area, (the peak district), is absolutely stunning. lots of green rolling hills and sheep in the fields, and woods to walk through. also lots of country houses you can go and visit, all within relatively close distances of each other, and of course the wonderful english villages :) another great place is stratford-upon-avon, where shakespeare lived. it's a tough choice you have for certain. i think you have to decide whether you want to try and visit as many places as you can, and just touch on one or two main attractions in each town. or whether you want to divide those 4 days into 2 sets of 2 days where you spend 2 days in 2 different places. whatever you end up choosing, i am certain you will have a fantastic time, and you will leave wondering when you can return again :) Source(s): i'm a brit Other Travel Tips whats up with the most beautifull part Wales. www.myegypt.co.uk I'd choose between Cambridge and Oxford. Bath, Northern Wales, and Edinburgh are a bit further out. If you go to Salisbury, definately check out Stone Henge. Also nearby is Avebury's stone circle. |
