Northampton information please!? |
Travel Info I am going to buy a house in northampton as I am relocating with my job. I don't know the area that well. Any ideas as to the good/bad areas would be greatly appreciated! Travel Tips A good decision! It depends what you like as to where you will like and also on your budget. There are a large number of apartments currently being built in town so will have good access to pubs, clubs, shops etc. There are luxury ones being built right in the centre of town. There are also some which are part-ownership. I would perhaps steer clear of any at Southbridge/Far Cotton. Whilst this area is convenient for town and borders the River Nene, it is right next to the Carlsberg Brewery and the smell of yeast is quite strong there sometimes. Also the site used to be an industrial one so God alone knows whether the soil there is contaminated. The whole area there is under development though so there could be a bargain to have. Out of town, some areas have seen recent regeneration like Spring Boroughs. That's near enough to walk to town on a Friday night and used to have a very bad reputation locally but has been considerably improved. It is also good for the train station and bus station. Certain areas I would steer clear of like King's Heath, Briar Hill, Camp Hill, parts of Abington as these are yet to feel the benefit of any improvements. But there are still some nice places on the edge of town, places that were once villages but have been subsumed into the town like Weston Favell, Kingsthorpe, Duston. These are nice places with varied housing. Then there are the developments which are more on the outskirts of town. At New Duston there's a massive variety of housing so it depends what you want. There's an eco development of flats and houses at Sixfields that look really nice. That whole area is supposed to be getting all new shops, a hotel, football stadium, sports centre etc so it will be a really good place to live eventually. There is also a large nature reserve there opposite which will be really lovely. However, check with insurance etc there as it used to be just above the flood plain there and whilst they have done considerable things to prevent it from flooding again, it's worth double checking. Then there is the development at Wootton Fields and Grange Park which have excellent motorway access and brilliant schools with a wide range of new houses and a country park, 4 good pubs in staggering distance, library, community centre etc. So it depends what type of housing you want. Expect to pay about 拢90-拢120k for a decent flat and 拢150-170k for a house. Others You would do better to ask the estate agents prior to looking. Once they give you "suitable" leaflets, ask this question again. We can then advise you individually regarding location and whether good or questionable. Happy house hunting. Suggest you buy elsewhere. What a storm I am about to start. It has a university. So lots and lots of crazy students. Northampton university student.
