Help to plan for a 12 waeks vacation to UK ..?

Travel Info
I am planning to spend a couple of weeks with my mom in UK , and I have know idea about the best places to visit .
I want a place with a good weather, shopping centers, good accommodations, natural beauty, museum and entertaining places , etc ..
places worth to be visited ?

Travel Tips
Get a rail pass as it is much more interesting to take the train.
Try and get out to the countryside. Scotland is beautiful. You can get a sleeper from London to glasgow for about 拢19 and then get out to the Highlands, Oban or Fort William are nice. Oxford is a lovely old city to spend a few days in, as is York and Bath. You can get to all these places easily by rail.
You can walk around these places and don't need a car.
I would avoid the big cities if you are with your mum as they all have the same shops and traffic ongestion as you would get in the states. I would only spend 2-3 days in London, just see the sights you want to ( and a show) and then get out into the country.

I use tripadvisor to book all accomodation. Stay in guest houses and B & Bs rather than hotels - they are much better value and you will meet more British.
Others
Come to Glasgow. It's the second best city for shopping in the UK (after London). It's a very friendly city with beautiful architecture, lots of fab museums, parks and other things to do. The night life's also great. The the great advantage of Glasgow is that it's close to the Scottish Highlands - you can get a train from the city centre and be in the middle of some of the most spectacular scenery in the world within an hour or so. Edinburgh, Stirling and other key tourist destinations are also within an hour's journey so it's a great base for touring.
Manchester has fanastic shopping centres, museums and entertaining places, good nightlife - you do not have to travel far to see other places - Lake district - peak district.
You can never rely on the British weather unfortunately.
Enjoy your visit over here.
american friends tell me the Uk is just like one big theme park to them, so much packed into such a small area
