UK How is Nottingham to live in? |
Travel Info It seems to be 2 hrs by train from London and about the same from Manchester. Is Nottingham definitely a university city? Have also heard about Nottingham Forest. Is the countryside nice? What do you know about it? Travel Tips Nottingham is a very nice city but it has a high crime rate. It has the highest Burglary rates and rising gun crime etc. It seems that there are "hot-spot" areas that are much worse than others so just pick the area you choose to live in well, especially if you have a family. The centre of the city is very beautiful, the surrounding areas are also very lovely with lots of parks and historic places to visit. There is also lots to do, great shops, good culture etc. Just be sure to do research on the different neighbourhoods and visit them during the day and evening to see what they are like.... Others Hi Well I have lived in Nottingham for 60 years I have visited other UK cities and Nottingham ranks very highly. There are several universities several large shopping centres lots of parks, good bus routes and tram routes. Local airport (East Midlands) and good access to trains. As for night life err well I am a bit old for that but I understand its very good and lots of choice. I have never seen, any guns, knifes, robberies but I understand it does happen but like all cities there are some undesirable elements. There is some very good housing to rent or buy just have a good look around on the Internet and read the BBC Nottingham site that will give you a good idea what goes off during most normal days Regards John Nottingham is in the East Midlands, it has a very poor crime rate, and gun crime is rife. I'm certain though that there are nice parts to live in, but don't know the specifics. Yes, it is a university city, but I think you are a little misguided in thinking that Nottingham Forest is just that, a forest. Nottingham Forest are a football team that tasted glory in the late 70's, 80's & early 90's, but are now a shadow of the team they used to be. Sherwood Forest, where, legend has it, Robin Hood used to roam is beautiful, has a visitor centre, and is well worth a look. Nottingham is ok. I have lived here nearly all my life. As in most places it depends on the area. If you can afford it i would avoid living in inner city areas. I am really lucky and live out in the countryside which i love as it is quiet but still only a 20 min bus ride to town. If you want to live in the countryside i would probably recommend a village called Cotgrave, It is and old coalmining village and the houses are fairly cheap compared to it's surrounding areas. It has quite a bad reputation but i have no idea why as MOST of it is lovely Nottingham is great for universities, colleges, restaurants,(every cuisine you can name) shops, transport (buses, trains, trams) The countryside is very pretty. There are certain areas in Nottingham (inner city mainly) that are not very pleasant.......... Nottingham has been named as being the most violent city in the U.K. apart from London..............there is a lot of gun crime here, and drugs. born and bred in Nottingham (am 48) I've lived in Nottingham my whole life and I would say regarding living in England, it's not a bad place to live. The crime rate is not as bad as places like London, but as London is the main tourist attraction in England they dump the negative titles on Nottingham. I have never seen any crime being committed though. For shopping it's supposed to be 3rd in the country or something however I personally don't believe that. It has pretty much everything you need in a city. There are some nice places to live in the city such as the Lace Market. |
