Scotland, inverness and surrounding area?

Travel Info
Im going to be in Inverness for a short break and would like to know if its a nice city? and what day trips i can take outside the city while im there which i can take in some great sites

Travel Tips
If you go to the tourist info when u get there u can get tour buses from right outside. You can go to Loch Ness and go monster spotting where theres lovely scenery like a castle and some small touristy villages. Theres also ghost tours although im not sure where to. You can go to clava cairns where theres standing stones and burial chambers from thousands of years ago. Right next to that is Culloden Battlefield(2 miles from where I am now) where the last battle was fought on British soil. You can get the train along the famous west highland way up to kyle of localsh. Famous for the beautiful scenery. When u get to kyle u can cross the skye bridge and travel up to the picturesque town of portree. Very scottish! Also in inverness you can go on a moray firth cruise for dolphin spotting. You can also go spotting in skye if u dont have the time. At culloden house they sometimes do tours of culloden woods where there is a cloutie well that the soldiers of the battle drank their last drink before dying. There is also the cathedral and the lovely river and ness islands right next to it. Dont forget your camera!!! Hope you have a nice time! Source(s): I live in Inverness and have lived in Skye. Inverness is a city now. It was granted city status in the year 2000 although the cathedral has no spires its the fastest growing city in europe.
Other Travel Tips
There is loads to do and it is a nice city. Get yourself into the tourist information office or in the hotel ther will be information on day trips. Main ones would be Loch Ness trip. Perhaps a trip to Landmark and up cairngorm on the fanicular railway.
It's still only a town even though it has a cathedral. Loch Ness is worth a trip around if you have transport. Culloden battlefield is a few miles East. Sueno's Stone is in Forres about 26 miles East along the A96 and Findhorn Bay which is near Forres has some OK sailing. Whisky distilleries galore within 50 miles especially on the Spey (Dufftown has several) or go North to the GlenMorangie distillert on the A9. Take a day trip over to the West coast for some spectacular scenery especially Gairloch or the Kyle of Lochalsch and the Skye Bridge (now free I think). Aviemore to the South is the gateway to the ski and mountain areas or follow the A82 South West down by Loch Ness towards Fort Augustus and Fort William at the base of Ben Nevis.

Really depends on how far you mind travelling and what you like doing. Inverness town centre is quite busy day and night and a couple of clubs too.

Have fun while you're there.

Inverness is a city,as of a couple of years ago!
You must go to mystical Loch Ness, also to Urqhart Castle there's a trip you can take where the bus takes you to Urqhart then you travel back to Inverness by boat ( or the other way around ).
