Living in Southampton, Hampshire?

Hi, I am wanting to know abit about Southampton, in Hampshire. from people that live their or near etc. Like what the place has to offer, shops, things to do etc, good and bad and just general things about the area, as we are thinking about moving their and would just like some views before we go for a look , thanks.

I went to Uni in Southampton.

I found it to be a lovely place. The shops have got a lot better since then I believe, but they were quite good back then.

The public transport used to be very good, and the city has a number of train stations, many of which can take you straight to London in 90 minutes or less.

Also due to 'the unique double tide' it seems to have a slightly better climate than other parts of the UK - it was always noticeably warmer down there and seemed a lot sunnier.

I was never troubled by crime, although it does exist, but I found it to be a warm, welcoming place and I was never made to feel like a nuisance or inconvenience just for having the cheek to be a student! Source(s): Personal knowledge

New Forest for walks, cycling, rambling etc..
Bournemouth Beach 20mins, Poole 30mins, Weymouth (hour), Isle Of Wight (1 hour by ferry), Hour away from Brighton

Have a big town centre with the largest indoor shopping centre in europe (West Quay)
Plenty of Night Clubs and loads of Bars and nearby historical sights, Winchester Cathederal, The City Walls, Bargate. The walks along the marine fronts of warsash and hamble are great. And plenty of Woodland walks too for parents and kids.

Not nice places nearby
Millbrook, Lordshill,Thornhill,Weston, St Mary's area,
PORTSMOUTH !! (smells of fish)

Not a bad place to live has its good points aswell as bad like any other city, big rivals with Portmouth F.C (known as Skates)

Not too expensive compared to Brighton, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Average house price roughly 拢150,000 three bed in a decent area.
