Should train companies assign one or more carriages to 'families only' for long distance journeys?

Travel Info
They have (or had) smoking carriages for trains that do long distance journeys (Virgin, GNER, Midland Mainline, First great Western etc) - should they perhaps consider including a 'family carriage' for people with young children?

i had to spend 5 hours on a train from London to Glasgow surrounded by mothers with small screaming, crying children - it really wasn't pleasant. I nearly smacked one of the little brats when he came to me with jam-covered fingers and trying to climb on my lap.

Would anyone else prefer if all these parents and children were put in a separate carriage away from the rest of us who just want to be left in peace and not covered in jam and dribble? Most of these trains have a silent carriage - maybe they need a noisy carriage too?

Travel Tips
Family carriage - Good idea! Not only would those without children be able to travel in peace for the duration, it would also benefit those with children to know that they wouldn't have to keep worrying about the comfort of passengers travelling without children, as this too can be very stressful for conscientious parents. School-age children should know how to behave in this situation, but it can be very hard on parents with infants, as they become bored very quickly and those who've had children know all about the 'terrible twos'! Don't you like being covered in Jam?
God Yes! I hate being stuck in a closed space with Kids... Nothing against mothers n all that hope to be one someday... But I don't need kids that aren't mine screaming and shouting in my ear!! And Mothers never answer their kids!! Why?? I had a kid scream "mam" for 10 minutes on a train!
It's certainly an interesting idea. I'm not against people having children, although I do think parents need to make more of an effort to control their kids.

Certainly why shouldn't rail companies have a family carriage?
No, people should learn to control their kids!!
thats a good idea. its a nightmare on trains with kids!
