London....? |
Travel Info What is London like? I'm a guy who was born in the Netherlands but now live in America. I want to move to England soon and I want to know from a Englishman's view, where is a good place to stay. I'm a guy who is laid back and kind of likes to take things as they go. I've heard that the best place in England is London and that in the rest of the country there is a lot of poverty and crime. is this true? thanks for the help in advance Travel Tips Sounds like you have been given a very skewed picture of Great Britain, particularly the idea that most crime is 'outside' of London!! And whilst there are areas of London that are more laid back than others, they are also more expensive (as in ridiculously!). I have travelled around the world and not found a city as expensive, or invasive as London. And it's not getting any better there! London can be a great city to live in, but without a good income, and a strong social circle, you will find it to be a harsh place to live. Many immigrants have travelled to London (as with other large cities globally) in the hope of prosperity, only to find themselves competing in high number, for low paid menial jobs. Accommodation prices are in the extreme, and the general cost of living is prohibitive for most. I've never been to Philadelphia, so I can't make the comparison, but London sure as hell isn't the Netherlands!! Others I dont know who has given you that impression about England as it is nothing like that at all. England is a country blessed with natural beauty and i am priveliged to live here. There is Cornwall, a county in the south west which is lovely. It has wonderful sandy bays and lots of gorgeous towns and its usually nice and warm. We have Brighton, which is a chilled out party town with freedom of speech and a chilled out ambience. It has great nightclubs, the pier and an atmosphere which cant be beaten. These are just to name a couple. Dont listen to what your friend said. Come and experience the delight that is England on your own! Try Beatrix potter country, The lake district it is very laid back and pleasant not to mention the idyllic countryside. http://www.cumbria-the-lake-district.co.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/lake_distri... |
