Driving to the US from canada - do I need my passport? |
Travel Info I'd like to pop over the border for some shopping, via car. What documentation do I need to get through the border? Thanks! Travel Tips If you are driving you do not need a passport until January of 2008. This year you are fine. If you are flying into Canada or Mexico you will need a passport this year. By the way, you dont need a passport to get into Canada or Mexico, but to get back into the USA> Others jan something is when it comes in effect You will need it sometime in January when it comes into effect. YES :-D on january 7th is when it will be mandatory for a passport. before then i think photo id(driver's license) is all that's neeeded. after the 7th they will be turning people away who are trying to cross without a passport i don't think you need it right now, but some time this year that will change. a passport will be required to enter the us some time this coming year. No, the change in law that requires a passport takes effect January 23, 2007 for those entering Canada by AIR only. For those entering Canada by land or sea the new passport requirement does not kick in until January 1, 2008. The US State Dept. has the rules here: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp... |
