Which of these 2 states do you find more stereotypically Southern: South Carolina or Georgia? |
Travel Info The new south has changed a lot from the old stereotypes of courtly gentlemen in white seersucker suits, straw hats, sipping mint juliops between buttery drawls of homespun wisdom. In which of these two states, Georgia or South Carolina, do you still see some of the remnants of the old south? Which one just feels more southern in character? Travel Tips I live in SC and would say SC. GA has ATL and that sets it apart because it is not a "Southern Town" and in SC we have Charleston. When you go to downtown Charleston you can feel exactly what you explained. However, the other areas around Charleston are just like any other place in SC. I don't know about GA but in SC the older people are still southern as in old south. The men don't say bad words in front of women and they are very strong in Church and their views on things like marriage, abortion, and other controversial things. Others I would think that S. Carolina would be more the stereotypical south. The job i do now, I talk to a lot of ppl all over the country, and from what i've gathered from those ive spoken to in those two states, S. Carolina seems more southern to me with the way they talk and how they talk. South Carolina out of the two. However, North Carolina is pretty southern. georgia feels more southern in character Since I live in the metro-Atlanta area and the area has evolved itself out of being a Southern city...and since I have relatives in South Carolina, I would have to say hands down it would be South Carolina. Now, 25 miles outside of Atlanta in any direction, then it would almost be a toss-up, but the edge would still go to South Carolina. RITA, HONESTLY DOES IT MATTER? Both states are as country as molasses once you get out of Atlanta. Ga. is a huge state. And Atlanta is a really modern city. I live 60 miles north of Atlanta. We still enjoy going to yard sales, eatin biscuits for breakfast. Stopping at the farmers markets for veggies and watermelon, or just see the old farmer in his pickup truck with them in the back. Everybody here has a truck and a dog. Some have gun racks. But both Ga. and S.C. are that way! Hope that helped. |
