LA - Beverly Hills or Hollywood?

I have a layover in LA from 1.30pm to 11pm next week. I am willing to travel by taxi around 1/2 hour away from LAX, but cant decide where to go.
I am looking for stuff to do near LAX for around 8 hours. Cheap is best, but I wont be entirely poor (have been on vacation, and this will be my flights home back to Australia).
Would prefer to just go to one place, not getting cabs from one place to another.

Travel Tips

I work at LAX. We have shuttles that will take you anywhere you want to go, and they are cheaper than taxis. You could take a shuttle or bus or taxi to Venice Beach or Santa Monica. They are fun places to go. Are you male or female? Want to go to a mall? When you arrive you will be on the lower level. Every terminal has a Travelers Aid booth on this level. They have a book with tons of things to do for a few hours. In El Segundo there is a anituqe car museum, if you like old cars, just call them first and they will call someone to come in and they will even take you back to the airport in one of the old cars if a driver is available. 1-310-909-0950. 610 Lairport St. in El Segundo. There's not too much to do around the air port. If you've never been to LA before why don't you go down the Walk of Fame, which is Hollywood and Highland Ave.

It's going to be more than 30 minutes away though...it's LA and traffic is BAD.
The guy's not looking to book a trip, SPAMMER, he's just going to be layed over there for several hours on his way back home. Or can you read?
I flew from Virginia to Greensboro, NC, then was flown from North Carolina to Michigan, ( 9 hour layover ), then from Michigan to LA ( Hollywood ).
By the time I got there, I was jet-lagged, and just wanted to go straight to my Hotel room.
I woke up the next afternoon, and didn't even hear the Housekeepers come in!!!

But Hollywood is so Lovely!!!
