I need something fun and cheap to do in Michigan with 2 adults and 2 toddlers.?

Travel Info
We live in the thumb. We're thinking about camping for a few nights or staying in a hotel for one night. Thought about going to the zoo in Detroit. I'm just looking for more ideas. We can pretty much go anywhere in the lower peninsula.

Travel Tips
Oh man...do yourself a favor and not waste time/money at the zoo.
I'm right with you. Mother of 2, 1 is still a toddler the other is in 4th grade. Always on the hunt for something fun, cheap, easy on our seasonal weather, yet within driving distance.
How much time do you have? If you can hit the Ohio/Mich border - venture off to the Sandusky drive-thru African Safari!
It's an awesome place for ALL ages. Email me directly for more info.

There are also some great interior water slides (toddler friendly) and parks at 2 hotels in Sterling Heights. That shouldn't be far from you.

The hot air balloon festival is also coming up in Flint.

The Livonia Spree has had wonderful times/reputation for 25+ years. It's always the last week and a half of June. Usually early 20's thru the 3/4th of July. They have free shuttle service, child care, food, music, rides, vendors, animals, etc.
If you can make it out for their light show - that's worth it and you don't have to worry about the crime and crowds of Downtown Detroit.

Hope this helps!

If you come to Lansing at all the Michigan Historical Museum is free and it is really awesome.

We also have a hands on science Museum that does not charge much, it's called Impressions 5 Science Museum.

In the Detroit area there is Cranbrook which has a science museum that is really cool and for a little higher price there is Greenfield Village in Dearborn.

On the free side again down south of Ann Arbor in Dundee Michigan is a Cabelas that is a lot like visiting a theme park. It has an Aquarium, a mountain with a waterfall in the center of the building with a trout stream running down from it through part of the store. It has a Cafeteria that serves game food. and even sells furniture. You have to go there if nowhere else.

Island Lake recreation area is near the intersection of US 96 and US 23(where you would head south to go to Cabela's) and is a really nice state Park with a good beach . There are a lot of beaches around but I thought this one would be nice and on your way. Also in Dundee don't miss the Jerky Outlet store it has real homemade Jerkies that are wonderful.

A bunch of friends and I got together and went to a place near Toledo, Ohio called Maumee (see this site http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/m... ). It has tons of stuff to do and has both camping and hotels on the same site.

Also Grand Haven or Pentwater on the west side of Michigan are both good if you want to enjoy the Lake Michigan beaches.

Michigan Adventure is fun. They have quite a few rides for toddlers, and they have that program where you can "switch off" to take turn riding grown up rides. Plus they have a water park included in the admission price.
