Why is New York sometimes called "Capital City"? |
Travel Info I always thought the capital of the USA was Washington DC? Travel Tips New York City was once the Capital of the United States. It officially became the capital on September 13, 1788, and remained so until the Federal Government relocated to Philadelphia in 1790. Perhaps that's why? Oh, and Tanvirssosmart? Wall Street is in New York, why would it be referred to as the Capital of England? The Stock Exchange in London is on Paternoster Square, which would make London the Capital - which it already is! Others Cause its so big and many people forget washinton dc is the capital you are incorrect. NY is NEVER called capital city. Dear It oftenly called as Capital City because it is the business capital of America not regional.... So thats the reason it called Capital City..? New York City has been referred to as "The Capitol of Capitalism," I've never heard it called "Capital City." You heard it on The Simpsons... That says it all doesn't it? I lived in and around NYC for 35 years and never heard it referred to as Capitol City. |
