Serpent Mounds in Ohio? Fun for a 14 yr old boy into gaming? |
Travel Info My sister and I want to take a trip around Columbus, Ohio. We plan on taking my 14 year old nephew, totally into the computer game stuff. We know he would love to go back to COSI, and we both think he'd enjoy the live, outdoor, amphitheatre performance of Tecumsuh. But we would like to see the Serpent Mounds too. What kind of involvement is there? Or is it just a museum and a gift shop andyou walk around... park like setting? I would assume you're restricted from walking on sacred burial ground. Anybody been there? Two 40-something women, love it? 14 year old boy... ??? Any ideas? He does have an interest in archeology... but that's mainly from some of the games he plays. Travel Tips Serpent mound is incredible because of how and when it was built. Large grassy area filled with huge serpent shaped mound. There is a tower to climb so that you can appreciate the shape which is not always apparent when you are walking on it. I haven't been in years, but I doubt if they've added anything interactive to the museum. Mound city is in Chillicothe on 104. If you are going to see Tecumseh you could go there too; if he's bored there then I wouldn't drive to serpent mound which is in Adams county. The historical society in Columbus has a very large archeology exhibit with photos and relics from many mound builders as well as other native american groups. Have fun and don't be disappointed if a 14 year old boy is bored no matter what you do. I thought the mounds were boring when I was a kid, but couldn't wait to take my kids to see them.
