I need a vacation, does anyone have good advice on local, inexpensive, long weekend getaways for one?? |
Travel Info I am on the east coast of United States, NY area but I am looking for a spot that has a little of everthing. I really just want to relax!!!! Travel Tips You might want to think about going to Washington, DC. If you're in NYC, you can take the train or drive down. Once you're in DC, many of the attractions (most of the museums, the monuments, etc.) are free. You can go to ticketplace and get half-price tickets to the theatre (and there aren't the ginormous lines like the TIX booths in NYC). If you want to relax in an outdoor setting, there is Rock Creek Park that's nice, or even the public gardens that are near the National Gallery of Art. Once you get there you really don't need a car since public transportation is pretty inexpensive and very reliable (and safe). Of course there's lots of shopping in DC - you've got the malls like Tyson's Corner and Pentagon City that have the usual national chains, plus places like Georgetown, Adams Morgan, and Union Station that have more funky, non-chain stores. DC has an active bar and club scene and if you want to do a little splurge, go to a day spa for a mani pedi or a facial as a little treat. My suggestion would be to pick up a DC City Paper once you arrive, it will give you lots of suggestions as to what to do. Have a great vacation!
