Brownsville, Tx. Question? |
Travel Info I'll be visiting Brownsville for the first time in August. I imagine it'll be very hot, and I'll be prepared for that. What is there to do there? What is the music scene like? Any fun things to do in Brownsville? Travel Tips Do you enjoy museums? There are quite a few, and they are not the stand around boring kind. Some are interactive. They just opened a multi-million dollar Fine Arts Museum adjacent the the famous Gladys Porter Zoo, which has the finest collection of rare animals from around the world. Accross the Zoo, you will find the Dean Porter Park, one of the most beautiful parks in the Valley with its own Pavilion and very nice hiking trail as well as a fantastic Olympic Size Public Pool. Shopping and window shopping is pretty ecclectic. The new side of town boasts a wonderful mall, Sunrise Mall and stretching along the edges of the Expressway, next to the mall and Cinema, you will find a multitude of Curio shops, Coffee shops, Deli's, Delicious Gourmet Restaurants and new Department Stores as well as Art Galleries and Bowling Alley, which is state of the art, among many other stores. There are more shops and stores around town, but you need to get lost to find them...lol Accross town, in Old Brownsville (ELIZABETH STREET), aside from the huge volume of Antique/Victorian Homes, you will find colonial homes that house shops and offices, as well as Museums. Drive down Elizabeth, park and walk...it's awesome and good exercise. You enjoy the Sand and Waves, then you must go to SPring Break Central, South Padre Island, which is 25 to 30 minutes from Brownsville. It's a straight shot from there, any map will show you. Shops, Curious, History, Museums, Shell stores and that's just Port Isbael (the city on this side of the bridge). Once you drive across the Queen Isabella Causeway, you will find a whole new world...Spectacular and wonderful. August is the time when the Seasonal BUsy time ends and you can get great rates on hotels, and that goes for Brownsville as well. There's more to do an dsee, but you need to go tho their Visitor and Convention Site to look up info. There's always somethign new opening or being added in town. There are a multitude of Bars, Clubs and they all have dance floors. Here is a partial list: Copacabana Nite Club Catzz Night Club Juan O'Leary's Bar & Grill Valentino's Night Club-Alternative/Singles Scene for Men and Women. They have fantastic Catwalk shows with color and fantastic music. If you are open minded and want to get crazy and have fun..this is the place. Good Luck! and Welcome!! Source(s): Live there Other Travel Tips things to do Brownsville Heritage Complex Palmito Ranch Battlefield Gladys Porter Zoo There is some great birdwatching there...and a mall. That was about the extent of what I did when I was there! You will be very close to the border...I suggest going on down into Mexico for better options. |
