Has anyone been to the Great Salt Lake?

I have. The lake is polluted with salt flies. The flies will drive you crazy. No one swims in the water. It is so salty, your skin will dry out and you will get salt all over yourself.

Yep! It was nasty where we were. Lots of beautiful scenery around otherwise, but near the water there were a bunch of dead fish and there were tons of flies on them. It really stunk terrible. I don't know if it always like that, or just our luck... hope you have better. It is gorgeous out west!
Tix just had a bad experience. It's usually very nice. I was just there last week on Vacation and it was nice. No dead fish experiences. It was pretty hot, though. Be sure to take sunscreen.

Antelope Island is an island in the middle with some stuff to do. Salt Lake City is a good place.
I was born here in Salt Lake City about 5 miles away from the Great Salt Lake... Its big... real salty I hear all kinds of percentages more salty than the ocean... Its beautiful for Sunsets... Got a ticket once for Kayaking in 18 inches of water without a life jacket on.. in a lake where you float...go figure... When certain storms blow in the massive body of water will cause "lake effect" similar to what weather patterns happen on the great lakes... Like Buffalo this past winter... its down sides... some times it stinks... When the wind really blows and turns up the gunk... it can be nasty... it has its own yacht club...a pavilion for concerts... some beaches but not what you would see on either coast...we don't all crowd to it because our fresh water lakes are more pleasant..HERE'S a web site....http://www.utah.com/stateparks/great_sal...
