Lake tahoe?

Travel Info
hi guys we were planning a vacation with a 2 year old kid to tahoe our reservations are already done for this weekend in Hyatt lake tahoe, we were a little skeptical whether to go or not after these wildfires. can soneone advice as the hotel is not ready to cancel and refund and few of our friends are advicing not to visit at this time....

Travel Tips
I wouldn't go unless you had planned only indoor activities. (Which I'm sure you didn't with a 2 year old.)

The wind has come up again. We're down wind and getting lots of smoke again - almost as bad as Sunday when it started. A friend just called from up there to say he's leaving because of the air quality & his job is gone until the fire's out. He also said the fire just jumped the Highway and they're evacuating more people so it doesn't sound like the fire will be out soon.

The fire is a good distance from the Casinos, but the smoke is everywhere.

The Heavenly Gondola is closed. That's not too far from the casinos, so I imagine they're affected by the smoke, too. That's what I would worry about with a 2 year old.

I'd stay away for the sake of the little one's lungs and go back at another time if you can. Check the fire situation again shortly before you're scheduled to go. If the winds die & stay gone like they should it might be OK to go by the weekend.

(We were going up for the day tomorrow & there's no way I'm taking our 6 yr old into that mess.)

With how bad the wildfire is right now, I wouldn't go any where near there... especially with your kid..
lake tahoe is nice, i have been there, yeah you should do it
You should go. The fire will be contained by this weekend, and the prevailing winds will keep the smoke away to the south. I think you'll be fine.
I will give you my best recommendation. You are going there in August, the fires will be contained by then. However there is always a chance that there may be a Wildfire. My opinion to you is, take some time to look at the positives and the negatives of going there in August.

If you do go, make sure you have an escape plan out of there.
There's also the fact that everything may be all burnt up still, because it takes a while to get things like this back to normal again. Also, I dont think you want to go there and expect to see the beautiful mountains and trees all around you, and then get there and they're all burnt up.

If you don't go, well I would suggest maybe going to a Nat'l park if you want. Heres a link: http://www.nps.gov
The fires are not going to affect your vacation other than the fact that the hotels are offering reduced rates for displaced residents. Most of those offers are being taken by actual employees of the hotel who live there and oas of today, most will be allowed to return to their homes and surrounding areas either late today or tomorrow. The fire is to the west of the casino area by several miles at the area of the agricultural station where you take highway 50 out of town towards sacramento. It would be a concern if you had planned to camp near the Angora resort but that is not the case.

If anything the recent events may give you a better understanding of the area when you interact with local residents and may have a better appreciation and understanding of the Lake Tahoe area that you would have never come to known.
