Why do people always say, "Theres nothing to do in Oklahoma" ?

Travel Info
I lived and traveled all over and I just dont get it. Sure we dont border the Ocean, but as far as things to do, which is the biggest complaint that I hear, we have just as great and exciting night clubs, great dining, great cultural events, beautiful and enormous real estate, and so much more I could go on and on, so really, I'm curious, what is it? Why do people say that? And please dont answer if you've never been here, and please dont answer, "its just boring" .

Travel Tips
First off, I love Oklahoma for its atmosphere. It鈥檚鈥?quiet. It also can be quite beautiful.
But look at what we don鈥檛 have, what we have going against us:
No ocean view, no beach. No real (big) amusement parks for the kids鈥攐r for the tourists. We have a few large hills that aspire to being mountains, but really aren鈥檛. Our cultural events are pretty limited to all things Native American. And, frankly, if you don鈥檛 catch it looking beautiful, it鈥檚 just so FLAT.
(Well, and recently I don鈥檛 think I鈥檝e seen the sun for weeks鈥攚hat鈥檚 with all this rain?)
So there are none of the things that people traditionally think of as exciting. Even the things you listed, other than night clubs (which I wouldn鈥檛 know about), aren鈥檛 things that are going to make people think, 鈥淲ow, Oklahoma is a fun place to be.鈥?br /> So, since it isn't actively "fun" people skip right over "well, it really is a nice place" and go straight for calling it "boring."
Others
Probably because there is always more to do in the other 49 states!
Some people would be bored in paradise, other people have a lot of fun in South -West Kansas. It`s about our ability to entertain ourselves.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma up till 2 years ago. My family and I relocated to San Antonio, TX. I think I say there's nothing to do in Oklahoma more now than when I lived there. When comparing Oklahoma to other big cities or in particular states sometimes it seems there is not as much to offer. I agree though, Oklahoma has alot real estate, dining, and night clubs as well as a beauitful OKC zoo which does not even compare to San Antonio Zoo. I wouldn't say it has alot of cultural events though unless you are referring to the more native American cultural events. I think the more people that will say that statement have lived in more exciting and prosperous cities/states so they maybe comparing to what they have seen or lived in. If they live in the state and say that, perhaps they need to get out more and experience Oklahoma so more!
landscape wise Oklahoma is pretty plain. The only part of OK that I think is pretty is the tallgrass prairie in Pawhuska "where the buffalo roam".

As much as I love the Bison bison they just won't entertain me for the rest of my life.

I do have to say that the "End Up" club in Tulsa was one of my most memorable bar experiences ever. It was the sorriest set of go-go dancers I'd ever seen.

I've pretty much decided that the only thing that entertains me in Oklahoma is getting drunk with friends and I can do that in much prettier locales that have other things to offer.
