If you had to evacuate your home, what would you take?

Travel Info
I'm in South Lake Tahoe and I might have to evacuate my house. I have a lot of valuables like jewelery, pictures, stuffed animals, clothes, tons of shoes, a radio, a TV, a laptop and letters that friends have me. I need help on this, so please answer and even if you don't, thanks for reading my question.

Travel Tips
well first take pets, and family members! they are most important!
then whatever you can fit in your cars.. start with valuables like jewelry and other expensive things (excluding the tv and radio but including the laptop) then go for pictures and letters because they cannot be replaced. then take only enough clothes that you will need, also special occasion clothes (wedding dress, prom dress, graduation gown... etc).. and only the shoes that you will truly need. as for stuffed animals. take the ones that mean the most to you! others can go.

things like clothes and shoes can be replaced! always remember to grab anything of sentimental value first!
grab all of your files like bill payments and confirmation pages.. any cash you have in your house... including jarred change! you never know when you'll need it. take along some food... dump any milk or any dairy that may go bad while you are out of the house. grab pillows and blankets and stuff for your kids..
dont get in over your head. make sure it all fits in your cars ALONG with the people!

make sure you turn off all switches. unplug any electronics that you are not taking. turn A/Cs off .. turn off all timers (sprinklers, outside lights etc.)

if something is threating burning your house you dont want any explosions so make sure ALL electricity is off.. along with your oil burner if you run on oil..

good luck with the evacuation. hope all turns out well
hope i helped :)
i never had to evacuate before.. i live in NY.. but I could only imagine how scary it must be!
Good luck, and God be with you :)

take the most important things first like pack the laptop jewelry and the pictures because they are the most valuable and it brings back memories and they mean alot then u can bring nick nacks like the things that can be replacable like clothes and shoes
I've often thought of that. As a teen and in my early 20's I always thought I'd grab the stories I'd written. From about age 10 I use to write tons of stories & poems. I use to hate the thought of losing them.

I think though if I had enough time to prepare I'd grab photos, my kids homeschooling books, my mp3 player & CD's & clothes.

Personally I'd don't cling to jewelery except my wedding rings. I do have one dear stuffed doll that I have had since I was 1 so I would want that. Also if I had letters that had special meaning I would take that.

Good luck. I am sure this is a scary time. I hate to not know what is going to happen.

Put your trust in God if you can. I know it is so much easier said than done!!!

I'll keep you in my prayers.

I would take all important documents( birth and marriage certificates, ids insurance policies, diplomas etc) money, then enough clothes and toiletries for a week or two. After you have these basics throw in the jewelry and laptop and then whatever else will fit into your luggage or car.

You are in my prayers
hi...I think this this is a tough question. This will be a question that only you can answer. You will need to list everyting you own. Then you will need to evaluate the list into two sections as very valuable and somewhat valuable. I know everything is valuable to you but you will need to look at it as ...the things that sit in a box or in storage and you don't use or visually see every month as something that isn't very valuable. Unless it is something that is a gift from family that is valuable ..that is the only ting that I could see as very valuable that you don't use often. You will also think of the things that you are able to part with without loosing too much sleep over. I would assume some of the stuffed animals, others, and shoes would be the first to part with. You will have to remember that you can also gain these things later in life. I would go through the many stuffed animals, clothes, shoes, jewelery, pictures and letters and choose the most valuable out of the lot and take those with me. I would then take the negatives (if you have them) from the remaining pictures and then put them on my laptop and then you can print them out whenever you are able to later. Then I would take the other jewelery that I couldn't take with me and give it to someone who would take very good care of it who I trusted that way it wont be completely lost...I wouldn't worry to much about the radio cause you can get radio on the laptop and listen to it that way...I would then take the tv, and laptop..but then again I'm a technology freak and cant live without it.
anyway hope this helps and you get to take as much as possiable...You can always put the things in storage that you want..
