Travel Info I am going on an Alaskan cruise - what would be the best thing to buy as a symbol of that trip? Travel Tips My sister just came back from an Alaskan cruise and I love the suvenior she brought me. It is a necklace with an Inushuk on it. It is a symbol used my the Inuits (Eskimos) of Canada and Alaska. They build these statues out of stones in the shape of a man. It is a symbol with deep roots in the Inuit culture, a directional marker that signifies safety, hope and friendship. Here is what it kind of looks like. She said you will find them a lot. http://www3.mailordercentral.com/imageso... She got our friend a carved whale bone. She had asked for something that you can only get in Alaska. Others A grizzly bear! snow A VERY WARM coat. An Eskimo. A small Totem Pole. Get one that is just a few inches high, either in wood or pewter. They are very inexpensive, three or four dollars, and are a great reminder of the trip. A baby seal that was clubbed to death...just kidding. Take lots of pictures, and take alot of film with you. Everything bought in Alaska is very expensive. Local art is always a favorite of mine, no matter where I travel to. |
