Hawaii, its beautiful, and you have to see it at least once.
If you like perfect weather come to Southern California.
Especially near the beaches!!!
It depends. They are really different.

Takes longer to get to Hawaii - 5 hour flight from LA.

California residents vacation in Hawaii. Hawaii can be a bit expensive. It is very unique and has it's own culture.

The ocean is colder in California. San Diego is great, beautiful and lots to do. LA can keep you very busy. Santa Barbara north to Carmel /Big Sur area is is fabulous. San Franciso and Napa areas are great.
