Is a Navajo guide required to drive along Canyon de Chelly's North & South Rims?

I know a guide is rquired to enter the canyon, but I'm having difficulty learning more information about the rim drives.

No, once you get there you'll see that there's a road that goes right by the canyon, and has several stopping points so you can get out and take pictures. There is even one point where you can walk down a little way and see some ruins.
Others
It has been awhile ago since we visited and camped their. I seem to remember you could drive the rim without guides.
