Apartments or even a studio?

Travel Info
I am moving soon and i need to find an apartment or even a studio in the Albany, New York area. If anyone could possibly help me out here, I'd be VERY thankful. I start college soon, and there aren't any dorms, so pleaseee. I have already visited a lot of web sites like... rent.com, apartments.com, areaguides.net, mynewplace.com, just tons of sites, without very much luck. I am desperate!

Travel Tips
I was just in your shoes... I looked on the internet and really didn't have any luck... The best thing to do is to make a trip to Albany and ride around close to the college and pull into every apartment complex that seems to fit your needs... I found the apartment of my dreams doing that...

Have you tried Googling the local newspaper in that town? That's typically the best way to find good deals.
Search on Yahoo Groups or Facebook or sites like those for people who are also going to your school. I know MySpace Groups has a part of the school groups discussion boards set aside for roommate matches. Post a message and ask around there.

When I moved back to NYC for law school I hit up Craigslist without anything working out but then I found a Yahoo Group for students in my entering class and within a week I found 2 roommates and an apartment even cheaper than what I had expected to pay, within 2 blocks of school.
Craigslist.org. This is a great resource for apartments. Also, i find that it seems to have better deals and a lot of private landlords, which in my experience are much better than most property management companies. A lot have photos and if they don't you can email or call and ask for some ahead of time. I got the apartment i have now off craigslist and it definitely has worked out. One of the best landlord's i have had.

Also, one more thing, if you can wait until the end of september (especially if you are going to be living in or near a college area) or october, then I would, that is a great time to look for apartments, because a lot of people would have rented in september already, so better deals and better apartments- most of the time.
